On this two week trip we explore Costa Rica and Nicaragua and visit the coffee farmers who supply Cafédirect with the coffee we know and love. Farmers will show us the coffee process from picking the beans right through to sitting back and enjoying a cup of coffee. There will be plenty of time to chat to members of the cooperatives and learn about the benefits that producing fair trade coffee has brought to their community.
After relaxing from our flights and getting our bearings in San Jose, we leave the city for Costa Rica's spectacular cloud forest, waterfalls and volcanic mountains. As we journey north through the country we visit groups prodcuing Fairtrade sugar and pineapples and at Santa Elena in the heart of the Monteverde coffee producing region we have our first lesson in coffee production. Our first few days in Nicaragua are spent on the Pacific coast before we head for the history and culture of Managua and Granada. We round off our trip surrounded by birds and butterflies with the coffee farmers in San Ramon.
