Ghana is often described as “Africa’s friendliest country” and as we enjoy the country's natural beauty, history and culture we can expect a warm “AKWAABA!” everywhere we go.

After exploring the capital Accra we travel north to the Ashanti region where we spend time with Kuapa Kokoo and the farmers who not only grow the cocoa for Divine Chocolate but also own a majority share in the company. As well as learning about cocoa production we visit some of the projects funded by the Fairtrade premium and understand more about this fascinating co-operative.

In Kumasi we gain an insight into Ghana’s cultural heritage when we visit the Natural Cultural Center and in visits to craft villages specialising in weaving and wood carving. In the Central region we learn about the history of the slave trade in a visit to Cape Coast Castle Museum before immersing ourselves in Ghana’s natural beauty at Kakum National Park. Following a day with Fairtrade banana growers and a river cruise we return to Accra to see the recycled products being made by Trashy Bags.
